Bakewell

Famous  for Bakewell Pudding. Quaint and unspoiled, full of unique shops  and places to eat. The river Wye runs through the town and has seating along the river side making it an ideal place to sit with a picnic or an ice cream.

The Royal Oak, Hurdlow

One of my favourite places to eat In the Peak District. The food is delicious, it is dog friendly and there is a beautiful real fire. It is a 45 minute walk from Parsley Hay Bicyle Hire Centre. We often park there and walk or ride to the Royal Oak and then walk back.

Wonderful Walks

Mam Tor, The Shivering Mountain

There are so many wonderful walks in the Peak District but Mam Tor is a favourite. After the short initial climb up it is a fairly flat walk, great if you want to walk and talk.  Great views and great for families. We came here with our grand children aged 1, 3 and 5.

Water

Wonderful Walks

Farms and Parks

Hathersage Open Air Pool

For those who love water. This is rated one of the best open air pools in the country. There is a nice grassy area and seating for those who prefer to just watch. There is also a cafe for a warm hot chocolate afterward. Book online in advance. Parking opposite, pay and display.

Farms and Parks

Farms and Parks

Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground

A working farm which is fun and educational for all ages, with animal handling and milking demonstrations. The playground has areas for all aged children along with sand and water play.

Caverns and Mines

A Taste of History

Caverns and Mines

Blue John Cavern. The Peak District was famous for mining and has some interesting underground caverns and mines.

Bicycle Hire

A Taste of History

Caverns and Mines

Monsal Cycle Hire. There are miles and miles of disused railway lines which are now bicycle routes. Many are flat and have bicycle hire centres.

Magpie Mine in Sheldon, near Bakewell dates back to 1740. It was the last mine to close in the Peak District and is just one of the many historical attractions In the Peak District.
